At a San Diego Comic Con, fans gathered for a 10th Anniversary panel dedicated to Star Wars: The Clone Wars… and got the greatest surprise possible.
Brace yourselves:
*takes deep breath* IT’S BACK IT’S BACK IT’S FREAKING BACK I AM LITERALLY VIBRATING WITH JOY ARE JOY-SHAKES A THING????
For those who don’t know, The Clone Wars was cancelled with its sixth season complete. That season went straight to Netflix, but the show was never allowed a proper ending per se. That is, the show was not allowed to end where Revenge of the Sith began, completing the arc of the Clone War itself.
That’s about to change.
Ahsoka Tano is back! She’s on Mandalore! She’s hanging out with the late-Duchess Satine’s sister! There’s a clear plot possibility here; the novel Ahsoka by E. K. Johnston followed Anakin Skywalker’s former apprentice to Mandalore, where she helped free the population following the death of Satine. According to the book, Anakin returns Ahsoka’s lightsaber to her—as she left the Jedi Order at the end of season five—and lends her a clone trooper battalion (with her old buddy Rex) to help the cause. But that’s only a small part of what happens in the book…
It seems like that we’ll be seeing the Siege of Mandalore, or at least what leads up to it. And, of course, there are plenty of other characters in play and stories to tell. (We could even see a young Thrawn, now that we know his whereabouts in this era thanks to Timothy Zahn’s books.)
Whatever, it doesn’t matter, we get more Clone Wars! And the love of the fans is absolutely what made this happen, so if you’re one of them, you played a part in it.
For more information, head over to StarWars.com and their interview with series creator and showrunner, Dave Filoni. New episodes of the show will be featured on the streaming service Disney has in the works.
OMG! GREAT NEWS! At least we will have Obi-Wan in cartoon now that the film is on hold.
I hope Emily will do a liveblog again!

Considering this was my exact reaction, yes; they are very much a thing :-)
YAAAAASSSSS :D
The thing about Clone Wars is that for me it was so hit or miss in terms of quality (at least in the early seasons) but when they nailed it they REALLY nailed it, and the last two seasons especially (I’m counting season 6 as one of the seasons) really were consistently high quality and it was a shame it got canceled right as they really started to get meaty. I’ve watched the story reels for the episodes that were in progress and I know a few of the plot lines got turned into some books/comments but there were definitely a bunch of interesting things (including Ahsoka’s time on Mandalore) I was sad to not see come to fruition.
Now of course I have to read all those books but I haven’t dug into the Disney canon books yet ;) Actually, speaking of, I just ordered the Traviss Clone War era books which are technically part of the Legends continuity but are about the show. I hadn’t realized any Legends era stuff had been made about the show. It will be interesting to compare/contrast I guess :)
Woohoo!
Lets hope we see Obi Wan’s child, the future mother of Rey.
On the Disney streaming service.
/quietly fumes
I’m sure it will be out on DVD eventually. I hope.
I could live without more Anakin adventures, but I am excited to see more adventures for Obi Wan, and especially more of Ahsoka.
To be featured on Disney’s new streaming service? This feels like Disney is deploying its corporate synergies to create premium content to draw people to the service, in the same way CBS created Star Trek: Discovery to boost All Access (which had existed for several years before ST:DSC, admittedly), or Voyager to boost UPN. Which only makes sense.
Here’s an analysis from January on Thrillist and a shorter February follow-up on Tech Crunch, both of which indicated there would be new original content in addition to the catalog of Lucasfilm, Marvel, Disney and Pixar fare. No name has been announced for the service, and current thinking is that it will appear in late 2019.
WOW WOW greate trailer
